A Beach Resort in Eastern Sri Lanka

There’s a seemingly endless string of resorts along Sri Lanka’s lovely coast — not a surprise given the beauty of the sea and its beaches.  These resorts are very popular with tourists, especially those from Europe and Russia.  Somehow Sri Lanka still hasn’t made it to the top of American travel destination lists, a pity really.

We’d spent the day exploring Trincomalee, a popular beach city on Sri Lanka’s eastern coast.  Mid-afternoon brought us to an area north of the city and we were all getting tired so we decided a break from driving and some refreshment would be appropriate.  Our driver took us to a beach resort, the name of which I unfortunately can’t remember.

It was a nicely kept place and we explored it a little before heading to its restaurant.   I thought that the whale skull, fish skeleton and sea shells were a nice touch.

We enjoyed a cold drink and some ice cream treats.  It may surprise some, but the ice cream in Sri Lanka is not only safe to eat but among the best I’ve ever had — top quality in every way.

An excellent way to cool down on a hot day.
