TravelGumbo started largely through DrFumblefinger's idea that with all the travel sites and resources out there, what would be new would be a website that was written by travelers (not just a traveler), for travelers and was based on personal experiences and heavily image-oriented.

We started as a group of friends who had met mostly through the travel forums of the Frommer's website. As we've gone along, literally scores of people have joined in, contributed their enthusiasm, images and knowledge—some a few times, and some have become a real core of regulars who have given TravelGumbo a diversity of styles, attitudes and interests.
