A Lady in Verona

We were rambling around the streets of Verona when we came across an elderly man walking this pretty dog.  She was obviously a lady of refined taste — carefully groomed hair, even with a ribbon in it.

My wife and I shared our admiration for the dog with the man walking her, when he then offered her leash to us.  “You can take her if you like her”, he said.

We were caught somewhat off guard by his comment.  He further explained that it was his wife’s dog and it was his job to take her for a walk each day.  He’d obviously had enough of that chore.

We parted ways, but if we’d been back home I might have taken him up on his offer.  She was a pretty and sweet-natured creature, and my wife and I both love dogs.
