A Tour For Beach Lovers: The Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean. They are informally known as the Canaries. You will be surprised to know that the Islands belong to the European Union and are a part of the country Spain even though they are located in the African plate and are very close to the African Continent than to its country Spain.

If you are planning a visit to the Canary Islands then you will be planning to visit a lot of beaches on your trip (the obvious place for which the islands are famous for!). Travelila has brought you a list of beaches that are quite popular over here, just check them out and visit them to have a great time in the water and taking sunbathes.

Las Teresitas Beach

Canary Island-1
Want to see shiny golden sand and just lounge in the bright sun? Then, this Las Teresitas beach situated in Tenerife is for you. It provides a beautiful admiring look that will make your vacation just awesome. The interesting part of this beach is the sand, it was brought from Africa. Apart from the beach, you can have an admiring view of the Anaga mountains. It is a Blue flag beach so definitely has the best standards.

Water over here is very calm and there are no high waves- possible with the breakwaters that are put over here to stop the waves. So, if you are visiting the islands with your family and children then it is a pretty safe beach for you to enjoy and have fun in the water without any worry.

Corralejo beach

Canary Island-2
If you are a nature lover then this place is a must-visit for you as it is a Natural Park. The Corralejo Natural park is about 25 years old and has a continuous stretch of 10 km of beaches. Teresitas beach will provide a view of golden sand but if you want to see white sand then you need to come to the Corralejo beach situated in Fuerteventura.

Turquoise water and fine sand dunes are the USPs of this beach.

Flag beach is the prominent beach out of all the beaches and you will have a wonderful time watching the activities of windsurfing and kite surfing over here. Even if you don’t like water sports, you will spend a great time watching other people do that.

From this beach, you will get an amazing view of Los Lobos island.

Maspalomas beach

Canary Island-3
Maspalomas beach is situated in Gran Canaria and the peculiar sight over here are the sand dunes besides the beach water. You will be surprised seeing the combination of sand dunes with water- literally, it feels as if desert and beach have been combined.

You will be shocked to know that the length of the beach is 17 km which is huge. You won’t be having any trouble finding a suitable place to stay as there are many hotels and resorts in the locality.

It is a popular beach among nudists so if you are visiting with your children then better avoid visiting it. If you want to have a private time with your partner then you will easily get a spot over here.

Cotillo Lagoons

Canary Island-4
It is a prominent place to visit during your vacation to the Canary Islands. You will be having a peaceful time over here as basically it is situated in the village of El Cotillo in Fuerteventura.

So, if you want to spend some time with nature, away from the chaos and crowd that the popular beaches have then certainly these lagoons of Cotillo will serve the purpose. You will find white sand and turquoise water over here. Usually, the tides are very low here so it is safe for your family and children.

La Concha beach which is a part of the Cotillo Lagoons was included in the best beaches of Europe so you can think how beautiful and admiring the views of this beach would be.

A great loving place for the surfers as well!

Famara beach

Canary Island-5
This beach of Lanzarote is very big. It is the ideal beach for surfers to have the best surfing experience due to the big waves. If you want to learn surfing then you will find many good schools over here where you can learn it.

The wind is awesome and so the view is with the high cliffs situated on one side and the shiny golden sand is beautiful too.

Amadores beach

Canary Island-6
If you want to be at a place that is crowded, with people chilling out and having fun with their families in the water then this is the awesome beach that you can visit. Amadores beach, located in Gran Canaria is one of the busiest beaches. One of the reasons for this is the clear water and low tides so people can swim without any worry.

So, here were the popular beaches of the Canary Islands. They are situated in different locations so based on the island that you decide to visit, you can visit the nearby beaches and have a relaxed time in the water, swimming, surfing and enjoying the beautiful view.

My wife Diane and I vacationed for two weeks on Gran Carnaria with a nice room overlooking Playa de San Agustin beach.  Besides the beautiful sunny weather, beach and food, the highlight was taking the bus for a day at Puerto de Mogán.  A few photos from there are attached below.  The agonizing part of the trip was the rude hotel guests who would “reserve” a few poolside chaise lounges at the break of dawn by putting their towels and a few items on the lounge chair, but not showing up at the pool until around 11AM.

Westward Reflections

Sometimes the fishing ain’t that great, but you still get quite a reward. On a calm evening, with only a few bites, I watched as the sunset turned incredible before my eyes. The smooth lake created a perfect reflection of the sky above.
