As American and JetBlue continue the unwinding of their former Northeast Alliance, they are also undoing some of the schedule and route changes that resulted from the now-abandoned plan to work together against Delta and United in the Northeast.
Among the changes: Starting in late October, American will again fly between New York and Boston, starting at four times a day. Before surrendering the route to JetBlue as part of the Alliance, AA flew the route up to 12 times a day providing an hourly shuttle.
The alliance was intended to allow the two carriers to share passenger routes and revenue and feed passengers into each other's flights. After a federal judge upheld a Justice Department claim that it was anti-competitive, JetBlue declined to contest the decision. American is still appealing, on principle, but the partnership is over.
More routes may be affected over the coming months as the unwinding continues. Some may not happen all at once because the two airlines exchanged a number of slots at slot-limited airports and must now re-exchange some of them.
