Among the things that tell you summer is nearly here is the annual Memorial Day travel prediction from the American Automobile Association—and this year is no exception.
Here are some of AAA's numbers:
- 37.2 million travelers (going more than 50 miles), the most since 2005. That's up by 4.7%.
- 33 million of those will travel by car, 88% of the total. That's up 5.3%
- Part of the jump is due to gas prices about $1 lower than last year, although it's starting to creep up a bit.
- While gas is down a lot and airfares a little, travelers will find hotel rates up and holiday car rental rates as well.
AAA reminds everyone to check out the car before departure; they expect to provide roadside service to 350,000 motorists, with dead batteries and flat tires leading the parade.
