Airbnb rolls out platform updates

Airbnb is adding new features to its platform software, some of which may make it a lot easier for hosts and renters to handle check-ins, including integrating ‘smart lock’ technology into its software.

Working with three makers of Wi-Fi enabled remote control locks, Airbnb hosts will be able to provide renters a new unlock code directly through the Airbnb app, eliminating any confusion about where to find the code, which will be generated automatically and sent to the guest on day of arrival; the code will expire when the rental is up.

A ‘Guest Favorite’ tag is being applied to listings that rate at the top of the scale in reviews; Airbnb believes knowing that will boost willingness to rent and overcome some renters’ qualms about what they are getting into, or help them more quickly narrow down their choices.

On the host-facing side of the software, there are changes to make it easier for hosts to compare prices with nearby listings and new tools to help organize their posted photos of the apartments and rooms.
