Airbnb has spent a good bit of its promotion lately on unique experiences such as rentals inside an Oscar Meyer Wienermobile, a giant potato, a boardwalk elephant, a windmill and a hobbit house.
But apparently, despite an internet proliferation of lists of Airbnb's '20 Weirdest' and the like, there are not enough, and Airbnb is offering a million-dollar pot to create more unusual overnights. Ten proposals will receive $100,000 each to "make it so."
The Unique Airbnb Fund will pick the winners from proposals submitted by April 15. Among the judges is Kristie Wolfe, Airbnb host of the Big Idaho Potato, formerly an advertisement for the Idaho Potato Commission. Airbnb says searches for tiny or unique locations are up 70% over last year.
