Airbus selling an A380—in pieces

Never got to sidle up to the inflight bar on an Emirates A380 and enjoy a drink? The opportunity hasn't passed you by yet, and you won't even need a ticket if you're the lucky winner at Airbus's charity auction of a retired super-jumbo.

The online auction will take place this Thursday to Saturday in Toulouse, France, although most bidders will likely be remote; the details are on Airbus's auction page. Different lots are available each day; the bar is part of the Friday offering. It's likely to go into five-figure range or beyond; it might be a hot item either for an individual or a restaurant with an aviation theme. The bar benches are a separate item.

Not all items are unique to a day; rows of seats are available daily, as are exit signs, beverage cars and more, including a wicked-looking tool created specially for breaking open the lavatory door in case of an emergency.

UPDATE

The auction is over, and you've missed your chance at owning the bar. But, you weren't really willing to go as high as $50,000 for the unusual trinket, were you?

The new owner has not been publicly identified, yet, but we can be sure when he/she/it is identified, there'll be a publicity splash.
