American Airlines, which has relied on its alliance partners for many European destinations, is adding service of its own on a number of new summer routes, including popular destinations such as Reykjavic, Budapest and Prague.
The three have all seen big jumps in tourist and business travel in recent years, and most of its partner airlines serve them either from New York, or from their hubs in Europe. American’s new flights have their U.S. bases in Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth and Philadelphia.
Service to Iceland will use an upgraded 757 with lie-flat seats in business, flying from DFW. DFW has also recently added flights to Amsterdam and Rome. Philadelphia is getting service to Budapest and Prague.
American will also add a second route to Venice, this one from Chicago, joining a Philadelphia route. Other recent Chicago routes have included Barcelona. With partner flights and the new additions, American can now reach 21 European cities non-stop.
