Amsterdam's annual marathon wants to go back to its old venue, running through the streets in the center of the city as well as parkland.
The event, one of the world's "platinum" level events that attracts elite runners, has followed a route mostly to the south of the center for several years, coming close to the center only when it passes the Rijksmuseum. This year's event was run last Sunday.
Next year's will be the 50th anniversary run and coincides with the city's 750th birthday. Organizers would like to make that connection, as well as create a route with fewer twists and turns. That would make for a faster course, and perhaps attract more participants.
