Amtrak flies into Google Flights search

Google Flights, the search giant’s airfare and route search tool, has added Amtrak’s train routes to its search database, offering travelers new options. The trains appear in a “Trains to Consider” dropdown below the flights.

The same range of options and filters that work on flights guide the selection of trains as well. The dropdown lists any additional train options.

While the reach of Amtrak routes is sparse outside of its main corridors, it can be a viable option, especially when considering travel to and from airports and needing to arrive hours early at airports. And, at $30 on Amtrak, price could be a real consideration.

By the way, if you’re wondering about those two very long flight times at the top of the list: They’re on a commuter airline that stops at either Burlington, Iowa or Quincy, Illinois on the way to Saint Louis, where you’ll wait for the next flight to your final destination.
