Rovaniemi, Finland is a popular location for vacationers wanting to experience the beauty of Lapland in winter. Beyond the dog mushing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and reindeer sleigh rides though, Rovaniemi has a lot to offer its visitors right in the heart of the city.

Attractions including Arktikum — a museum, science center, and culture destination — are within walking distance. Pedestrian-only streets make shopping and looking for the right restaurant easy and fun and during the day a walk along the frozen Kemijoki River (top photo) is enjoyable as well.

Yes it is cold, but I was prepared and loved every minute in Rovaniemi and Finland!!
