Japanese archaeologists (Univ. of Yamagata) announced their discovery of 2 dozen new geoglyphs on Peru's the Nazca Plateau, a mile north of the city of Nazca. These shapes are mostly geometric designs similar to others the region is know for, but are thought to have been created 200 years earlier.
According to a report submitted to the Peruvian government by the Japanese, the newly recognized figures are smaller and less distinct than the older ones. They vary from 16 to 66 ft tall. One figure might depict a llama. The team of Asian researchers began investigating the Nazca culture in 2004, and has since found around 50 new geometric figures since.
