Atlanta back on top of busy airports

 

Atlanta was once again the world's busiest airport by passenger traffic last year, a crown it had lost two years ago after several years at the top. It clocked a bit over 75 million passengers, still well below the 110.5 million of 2019.

The big surprise, not likely to last, is that all but two of the spots on the list compiled by Airports Council International were held by U.S. airports, which in most pre-pandemic years usually scored only three to four spots. The shift comes largely because of a revival of domestic air traffic in the U.S. while traffic in many other countries, including China, stayed low.
