August 17, 2016: Colmar, France

I’ve spent 18 years overseas with the U.S. Army.  My wife and I called Alsace “our escape” from the Army base in Darmstadt Germany, and loved Colmar.  Alsace was a short drive down the Autobahn where the colors of the natural landscape and the colors of the half-timbered structures bombarded your senses in a wonderfully spectacular way.

Colmar is the birthplace to the sculptor Frédérick Bartholdi who designed the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.

The Alsace region is a very beautiful area. We lived in Lahr in the late 80s and would go over there fairly regular. We loved going to Strasbourg for dinner and a movie at the only English language theatre in the area at the time. The country side was so lovely to just spend a day traveling around, exploring down all the secondary roads. Thanks for the memories.
