Sitting at the bottom of a cliff along the Pacific Ocean, the Sutro Baths were the brainchild of millionaire and former SF mayor Adolph Sutro. Born Geremany, Sutro brought is vision of public baths to San Francisco and, in 1894, created a space that could host up to 10,000 people at one time.

The baths contained several pools, both fresh and salt water, and heated to different temperature.
The baths closed in the early 1960's and burned down in 1966. Today all that is left are the ruins of the buildings, along with a small beach. The area today is part of the Land's End section of the Golden Gate National Park.
