August 5, 2016: Pico de las Nieves, Canary Islands

Pico de las Nieves is the highest peak of the island of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain, with a height of 1,949 m (6,394 ft) above sea level.  Its origin is volcanic (stratovolcano).  On its slopes, Canary Islands Pine was reintroduced in the 1950s.  It is the highest elevation of the province of Las Palmas and the 32nd highest mountain in the Canary Islands.  Gran Canaria is the third largest island of the Canary Islands, after Tenerife and La Palma.
