Taiwan suffered an embarrassing moment this week when it admitted that it had accidentally used an image of Washington's Dulles International Airport on its passport pages, which were supposed to feature a plane taking off from Taipei's airport.
As a result, more than 200,000 passport blanks will be destroyed, 285 already-issued passports will be cancelled and replaced, and travelers caught in the middle, the Ministry says, can make do with an 'e-passport.'
The Taipei airport bears some resemblance to Eero Saarinen's sweeping glass terminal at Dulles, but not enough to fool sharp-eyed observers who raised the cry. Initially, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied the error, but later admitted the designers had made a mistake while taking pictures from the internet.
