Brussels’ Christmas tree, installed last week on the city’s Grand Place, has a Canadian connection this year, with participation by the 11 Indigenous Nations of Quebec. The Indigenous Nations are this year’s guests of honor for the city’s annual Winter Wonders Christmas market and festival.
The 22-meter Nordmann fir is being decorated with 140 ornaments from the Indigenous Nations of Quebec, including a Mi’kmaq star, a snowshoe, an inukshuk and dreamcatcher along with 50 white light beads and a 2-kilometre-long garland of LED lights. The lights will be lit on Friday 24 November in a celebration with traditional dance and song by people from the Indigenous Nations.
Winter Wonders, which won honors as last year’s best Christmas market in the world, runs from this Friday through December 31. Along with the market there are daily events including ice skating, as well as food and drink stands
