It's time this summer for Brussels to show off its every-two-years Flower Carpet again, but this year with a difference: the intricately-patterned display will be made of dahlias this year instead of the usual begonias.
The Flower Carpet has been a feature of the city's Grand Place in alternate years since 1971, always before with begonias making up the 70 metre by 24 metre display. The Brussels Flower Carpet Association made the change saying "Grown in Belgium, the dahlia is both robust and aesthetically pleasing."
The carpet, which will be on display from August 15 to August 18, was designed by a street artist from Liege, and will be assembled by some 100 volunteers who take about six hours to put it together.
