Brussels wants to be a cycling city

Brussels is on a campaign to lure more travel from four-wheel vehicles to two-wheelers, and while it's far behind such cities as Amsterdam and Copenhagen, it has plans.

The 'Bike in Brussels' fund is investing €1.2 million in a variety of cycling initiatives across the Belgian capital with the aim of making it easier for residents to get onboard with biking. The money will go toward 28 projects spread across 13 of the capital's communes.

In total, the program includes 1,400 new secure bicycle parking spots, three new bicycle routes and two bicycle repair workshops. The parking spaces will be located at a variety of sites including at schools and university campuses. The new funding builds on €7.5 million worth of past projects funded by Bike in Brussels.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
