Busker at The Chellah Necropolis, Rabat

While staying in Casablanca, I did a day trip tour of Rabat, Morocco's capital.  Unlike the chaos of Casablanca, Rabat is a fairly calm and orderly place, and is a very clean and well-maintained city.

Our first stop was at the Chellah Necropolis, the structure you see above, with an imposing wall and two octagonal towers.  We wanted take a quick look around and enjoy the views of the Bou Regreg River valley.   The Necropolis is an important archaeologic site that dates back to the Phoenicians and Romans.  In medieval times it was used as a cemetery.

Unfortunately, the site was unexpectedly closed, but we were greeted by this street performer.  The man was dressed in a traditional costume, beating a drum and spinning the long tassel on his hat in a circle.  He was a kindly and good-natured fellow who posed for us (and was grateful for a few coins).
