Central Park woodland sanctuary reopens after 80 years

Central Park has reopened a four-acre woodland nature sanctuary named Hallett Nature Sanctuary. It was closed by the park commissioner Robert Moses in the 1930s who thought it would become a bird sanctuary.

The Central Park Conservancy decided to restore Hallett in 2001 and open it back up to the public, but had to control the wisteria that was strangling the woodlands. It took years of help from schools and volunteers to do that.
