Cruising the Nile

The photo above was taken out of the window of our cabin during a week-long cruise along the Nile. I cannot imagine ever going on an ocean cruise – my wife once won one in a competition, but I was more than happy to offer my place to her sister. River cruises, however, are a very different thing and do appeal to me. For a start, there is always something close by when you look out of the window – and in the case of the Nile what you see is generally well worth looking at.

Our departure port was the relatively busy tourist hub of Luxor (pictured below).

Once underway, though, we often felt as if our boat was completely alone on the river.

But occasionally we did come across other craft, like this local ferry …
