Don't look up: Haneda monitors coming down

ANA is removing its big overhead monitors at the pre-boarding security hall in Haneda Airport's Terminal 2. If you want to know flight status, gate assignment or anything else, the airline says, well, there's an app for that.

The monitors (image above) will be removed, although smaller ones will be available elsewhere in the terminal. ANA says that cost-saving is one of the reasons for the move, but that most people aren't using them anyway because of widespread use of smartphone apps.

However, the move isn't proving popular on Twitter and other social media,, where many people have posted protests, pointing out that when you're in a security line, keeping up with other passengers and managing your bags, it's just not convenient to have to fish out your phone and open the app. Others pointed out that older people and foreign visitors are less likely to have the app installed on their phones.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
