Walker Lake is a large natural lake in Nevada's Great Basin Desert. It measures about 11 miles long by five miles wide and is fed by the Walker River. The lake has no natural outlet, the water disappearing by evaporation and ground absorption.

As you would expect, such an abundance of fresh water makes it a popular place in the Nevada desert, drawing boating enthusiasts, water skiers, fisherman, and people who want to enjoy the area for a picnic or a relaxing day at the lake.
The last time we drove past Walker Lake on our way to see our oldest son who lives in Reno, there was a very strong wind blowing, with intense gusts. The normally clear air was obscured by huge blowing clouds of dust.
Last weekend's One Clue Mystery photo (shown below) featured a photo of a dust storm over Walker Lake. I thought iit a tough photo clue as the dust looked somewhat like steam rising above a geothermal feature and I guess it fooled everyone, as no one recognized where we were.
The wind was a little frightening. We passed 3 overturned semi-trucks who had been blown over by the strong winds that day.
