FAA: Break the rules, lose PreCheck

The FAA is rolling out a new penalty, on top of serious fines, for air passengers who get unruly in flight, start fights or assault flight attendants: They can also lose their PreCheck privileges if they have them.

The agency will now share its lists of passengers who have been fined for unruly behavior with the Transportation Security Administration, which manages the PreCheck program, which allows members to leave laptops and liquids in their carry-ons and keep jackets and shoes on at scanning. PreCheck membership is open to 'low-risk' trusted travelers.

FAA Administrator Steve Dickson, a former pilot, said in the announcement that “If you act out of line, you will wait in line. Our partnership aims to promote safe and responsible passenger behavior. One unruly incident is one too many.”

Meanwhile, flight attendant unions have been urging airlines to pool lists of passengers they have banned because of bad behavior so they can't simply act out on another airline.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
