Norwegian, which bills itself as "the world's fastest-growing airline" is certainly growing rapidly in the U.S. market, and is adding more. And, as it becomes a major factor in the market, it's driving fare and schedule variations for its competitors.
The carrier, which added 25 routes from U.S. airports to Europe this year, will add four more soon, connecting Los Angeles and New York with three new European destinations: Amsterdam, Madrid and Milan. That will mean a total of 16 European destinations from 16 U.S. cities.
Not including six routes from the U.S. to the French Caribbean (technically Europe), Norwegian now has 61 non-stop routes between the U.S. and Europe, and will be adding at least 11 more next year, as well as opening a crew base at Los Angeles, which will have nine non-stop routes to Europe.
The just-announced routes will start with introductory fares of $199 from New York and $229 from Los Angeles. Plus, of course, fees.
