One of my favorite times of the year to visit Alsace is early fall. Summer tourist crowds have diminished, many festivals are happening in the villages, and the flower boxes are bursting with colors. Throughout most of western Europe, flower boxes can be seen most everywhere, however, in Alsace, those blossom colors standout against the boldly painted traditional facades.
Flowers can even be seen poking out of very small openings and in one case, a teddy bear blowing bubbles from a window ledge substituted for a flower box.
