Spanish towns and attractions that have been used for filming of Game of Thrones episodes have seen huge increases in visits as 'television tourism' becomes a growing factor in travel.
The Castle of Zafra (above) has had a 488% increase in visitors, according to TheLocal.es, and the nearby town of Campillo de Dueñas, also shown in the TV history/fantasy series has had a 291% increase.
Other areas, including Seville and Almeira, have also seen substantial increases, as has Girona, where extensive filming was done this year. Similar effects have been seen in other countries. And, of course, in Britain, there's been a steady stream of visitors to Highclere, known to many as Downton Abbey.
