Los Angeles got an instant landmark the other day as Goodyear inflated a new hangar to serve its newest Goodyear blimp, Wingfoot Two, which began operating in the LA area in October.
The new building, which took a few days to prep before the overnight inflation, is the largest inflatable structure of its kind in North America. It's the length of a football field, nine stories high, and visible—let's say very visible—from the 405 Freeway at Carson, in southern LA County.
While its fleet of blimps, hovering over sporting events and much more, are perhaps the company's most noticeable endeavor, it remains one of the world's largest tire companies. That said, it turned to another specialist to provide the hangar. Lindstrand Technologies, an English company, builds airships, balloons, and more than 200 large inflatable buildings for hangars and airport terminal roofs.
