Armchair travelers will soon have a new destination: the fabled chateaus of France's Loire Valley. Google has signed up 18 of the chateaus for the project that will provide not only detailed exterior and interior views, but also special views of artwork and areas not usually open to the public.
The project is being created through Google's Google Cultural Institute arm, which is based in Paris. The Google Street View technology, in this case using humans rather than cars, has been used to create most of the imagery. Google has also used its "Art Camera" technology to get super-high-resolution views of artwork in the chateaus.
Dates have not been announced for availability.
