I must admit doing a double take when I saw this robust young monk working at repairing something by the roof of the Temple of the Tooth complex in Kandy (which you can read more about here).
I was back in Kandy after having spent the morning exploring the wonderful, ruined city of Sigiriya. I usually liked to visit the Temple of the Tooth complex in the late afternoon, after the hottest part of the day. This particular afternoon I encountered this young monk at work seeming somewhat out of place, with his flip-flop type of sandals, up there on an aluminum ladder. Doesn’t seem OSHA compliant, but he was very skilled at what he did and quickly completed the repair before heading off.

His body language tells me that he knows his stuff. Thanks, Dr F, for this universal slice of life moment.
It proves one of life’s great truths, one I’ve thoroughly tested myself all over the world, that anything can be done in flip flops.
