December 18, 2015: Tiled arches in Tallinn

Now I'm really deep into my shoe box of interesting photos of unusual things to share with my chums at TravelGumbo. Today, I came across these very pleasing arches, each capped with roofing tiles, which appear to serve the function of supporting and keeping apart this section of the old city walls in Tallinn, Estonia, capital of this Baltic state. Colour, texture and form.... I love it!!

I think the arches were actually functional, probably bracing the wall of the building on the right against the thicker fortress wall on the left. The tiled tops must  be to protect the arch against the effects of the weather eroding the arches. Unusual, in any event.
