Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, July 7, 2014: Houses of Parliament, Ottawa

 Ottawa, Houses of Parliament

Ottawa is the national capital of Canada.  Small, compact and easy to explore with lots of great places to see, the city is a wonderful weekend getaway destination.  Ottawa is centered on Parliament Hill upon which sits an iconic cluster of Gothic buildings overlooking the Ottawa River.  It’s from this complex that the National government functions (or doesn’t function, depending on your perspective).

The best views of Parliament Hill and the bluff on which it stands is from the far bank of the Ottawa River in the city of Gatineau, Quebec.  That’s where these photos were taken.  The rounded building in foreground of the complex is the Library of Parliament.
