Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, June 27, 2015: Windsor Castle

Nearing the end of a springtime walk along the Thames Path, I lingered in Windsor an extra day, having discovered a small group tour on the castle website I was unable to resist, the Great Kitchen of Windsor Castle.  I wish I could show you pictures of the Queen’s kitchen but photographs weren’t allowed, no surprise.

After the tour I made the rounds of the public rooms in the castle, included with my tour reservation.  When I was ready to leave I stopped off at the gift shop then headed down the sloped path, past gardens and castle walls, some distance toward the gate into the town.

I’d just come through the archway when I heard the sound of several sets of boots behind me, marching in unison.  I turned and saw those lovely red uniform coats and bearskin hats we all know so well, the Queen’s Guard at Windsor.  Those shown here are Coldstream Guards, the double buttons on their tunics a clue to the regiment identity.
