A few of us may remember Winchester Cathedral and a catchy tune that propelled a song to #1 on the pop charts. It was the first I’d heard of the place and the words that followed were, “You’re bringing me down.” When I finally got to Winchester not long ago, a place to visit before boarding the QM2 in nearby Southampton, Winchester Cathedral did anything but bring me down. I loved the town and stayed in a small cottage, the back wall of which was also the wall surrounding the cathedral.
I spent a couple of days there and, on one of my walks, discovered the restored 18th century Winchester City Mill on Bridge Street. Set on a tiny island in the middle of the River Itchen, it’s an unexpected and lovely spot to visit.

Wow, a GREAT cathedral. And the quirky video at the end was a nice touch. I always was curiously fascinating by that song, especially the ‘bringing me down’ line you referred to.
Some day I’d like to hear the story of your journey across the Atlantic on the QM2
