A rainy night in the Old Town of Rhodes blurs the sense of time. The old town, built originally by Crusader knights forced to retreat from their former kingdoms in Palestine, still lives within its ancient walls, and seems quite separate from the New Town that grew around it in the 1800s.

 

A bustling beach resort in the summer, with almost no space to breathe, Rhodes in early spring has enough warmth and enough attractions to provide a great vacation for low-key travelers. And, a few weeks ago, enough mystery to serve as Where in the World is TravelGumbo #5.5
