Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, May 27, 2015: Grapevine, Texas, Urban Wine Trail

Messina Hof Winery Grapevine offers a cozy 19th century atmosphere with several wine tasting rooms.

Grapevine, Texas, is just north of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and a world away from what you would imagine a community this close to a major metropolitan area would be like. What you’ll find is Main Street lined with locally-owner gift shops, boutiques and restaurants, a train station where daily train rides take visitors into the countryside or to the nearby Fort Worth Stockyards, and several wineries.

Umbra Winery features more than a dozen award-winning wines.
Texas is the fifth-largest wine-producing state in the U.S. and Grapevine is a popular wine destination known for its Urban Wine Trail.  Featured are wine tastings, wine tours, the wine train and special events including GrapeFest — this year September 17, 18, 19 and 20.
