Sunflowers are happy things! Like the gentle quacking of ducks or the gurgle of a small creek down a mountain, they make me smile. I'm not sure if they're called sunflowers because they look a little like the sun or whether it's because their heads move with the sun (they face east during the morning, straight up at midday, and west at sunset). Whatever the reason, they are very photogenic.
This photo was taken during a walk in the small city of Cranbrook, by the Kootenay Rockies, in southeastern British Columbia. Someone who lived in one of the older homes in Cranbrook obviously liked sunflowers as much as I do and planted this bunch right by the sidewalk.
