Gumbo's Pic of the Day, Oct. 26, 2013: Aerial view of the Okavango Delta, Botswana

Surrounded by the brown sands of the Kalahari Desert is a large oasis of green and blue, the Okavango Delta.  An inland delta with no outlet, its waters sustain all life here, including large numbers of fish, birds and mammals.

When you're in the delta you really can't appreciate its many channels or how vast it is, but you certainly can from the air.  This photo was taken through the window of our small aircraft as we were flying from one game camp in the Delta to another (always visit several if you go -- they are all unique).  The channels of the delta and even game trails are innumerable.  A jig-saw puzzle arrangement of water and land.
