I believe this is the largest insect I've ever seen -- perhaps a rare walking stick was longer, I'm not sure.
While on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, we were treated to an amazing assortment of life, including some impressive insects like this one.
This is a female Hercules beetle, also known as the rhinoceros or unicorn beetle because of the male's impressive horn. The males are even larger than the females and can measure up to 6 inches in length. They live throughout the warm rainforests of Costa Rica.
