Heritage liveries on display on AA planes

American Airlines has just rolled out the last of a series of planes painted with the liveries of airlines that became part of AA over the years.

The tradition started with US Air painting planes with liveries from Allegheny, America West, Pacific Southwest and Piedmont. Now that USAir has merged with American, the painting has continued with airlines merged into American. The last two have just rolled out: Reno Air and TWA.

Ironically, at the same time, American is moving ahead with its plan to paint all the USAir planes it inherited in the merger in AA's own new livery. That work should be finished by the end of next year.
