It's been an exciting week for global travelers, especially those with UNESCO World Heritage bucket lists. 27 new sites were included in the list this past week, including Texas' Historic Missions.
One of the more interesting of these new listings is the region which includes the hydroelectric dam that was sabotaged by actor Kirk Douglas in the 1965 war movie, "The Heroes of Telemark". The film was shot on location in Telemark.
The dam was built in 1911 to provide power for adjoining factories, including a fertilizer manufacturing facility. The list mentioned the area is an excellent example of "new global industry in the early 20th century".
