Hikers plan to ‘leave no trace’ in Switzerland cleanup

The Swiss Alpine Club and hike-group organizer WeHike are teaming up with the Summit Foundation, which organizes clean-up days all over Switzerland to promote a series of hikes where hikers are encouraged to remove not only their own trash, but what others have left behind.

Summit Foundation has organized group clean-ups along Switzerland’s mountains, lakes and rivers for over 15 years; WeHike is a relatively new startup that sets up hiking groups and accommodations. Its first specially-designated “Leave No Trace” hike will take place on July 15.

The Swiss Alpine Club, which maintains a string of hiker cabins in the high mountains, is doing its part by adding more trash bags to its site, The new bags are made from recyclable material, and hikers are encouraged to fill them with any rubbish they see on the way down with their own.
