A German beach resort with a snooty attitude and fancy furniture (maybe) has told the world that heftier guests are not welcome at the hotel—and no kids, either.
The Beachhotel Sahlenburg, at Cuxhaven on the North Sea, has a rule: “For reasons of liability, we would like to point out that the interior is not suitable for people with a body weight of more than 130 kg,” or about 285 pounds.
The hotel's owner told German media that “The designer chairs downstairs, they’re real classics. When a person over 130 kilograms sits on it, they sit there with one buttock and the chair does not last long. But I want to have a designer hotel and I want to have nice furniture - not brutal furniture made of oak.”
She also claimed that her beds are too weak for heavier guests and her showers are too small. And it appears that she may not be violating German disability law, because weight is only considered a disability for someone who was so obese that their ability to take part in 'activities of daily living.' Some people might think that would include being able to rent a hotel room.
