Icon of the Seas: Prices are big, too

Royal Caribbean’s newest ship is not only the largest cruise ship ever, it also has some of the biggest prices as well, with demand for the new ship’s cabins driving prices out to sea.

Cabins that were priced at $1,259 per person for a 7-night cruise when the ship first opened for booking in 2022 are now priced at $1,775, a 41% increase in price before the ship even sailed. And that’s not all: The original prices were already three or four times the price for cruises on some other RC ships with similar itineraries, which have prices starting as low as $469. Even prices on its next-largest class of ships start at $699. Prices for more desirable cabins go even higher.

Industry news site Cruise Critic point out that many cruising fans are most drawn to the biggest ships with the most restaurants, bars, shows and decktop attractions, creating a seller’s market for those ships, while leaving vacant cabins to be discounted elsewhere.
