Three of Ireland’s Greenways may soon be linked up to create a path across Waterford, Tipperary, Cork and Wexford that could attract up to a million and a half users each year.
Ireland’s Greenways, a network of hiking and biking trails often using old rail and water routes, has been growing in recent years, and have helped open new areas for tourism.
The proposal under consideration by the Waterford and Tipperary Councils would connect the highly-popular 46-mile Waterford Greenway with the Suir Blueway and then to the new Cork Greenway, which will open within the next year.
The Waterford Greenway already has over 250,000 users on a former rail route that includes coastal views and railway tunnels and viaducts.
