TravelGumbo previously reported that Carnival Cruise lines was taking reservations for a cruise May 1st to May 7th from Miami to Cuba without the Cuban permit to do so. On Monday, coinciding with President Obama's visit to Cuba, Carnival announced they got the Cuban permit to sail from Miami to three approved stops: Havana, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba.
The cruise will be the first direct cruise from the U.S to Cuba since 1961. It will be on the 704-passenger MV Adonia on Carnival's new brand Fathom .
